The laptops motherboard is the most important area of your laptop and contains many hundreds of components. Any one of these components can fail at any time causing your laptop to either perform unusually, or not power on at all.

In order to save space and make laptops small and portable, many of the important components such as Graphics and Sound are intergraded into the motherboard itself.

Unlike Desktops, when a Graphics card fails you can simply remove the card and replace it with a new one for a relatively cheap cost, this is not an option with many laptops as the graphics is intergraded into the motherboard, and in most cases you local Computer repair shop will tell you that your laptop is beyond repair and will recommend an expensive new motherboard; or a brand new laptop as the solution.

As new motherboards for laptops can cost up to £400 this is not an economical option for most.
